Cup Crazy Jerseys Available
Remember the Hockeyville bid last year? That day when everybody wore their favourite hockey jersey, and everybody in town, from kids and seniors to waitresses and business people got involved and had a great time? Team Cornwall wants to bring that spirit back for the rest of Canada to see, when Cornwall hosts the RBC Cup, May 3rd to 11th.
Cornwall hockey fans are being asked to show their colours by wearing hockey jerseys throughout the RBC Cup – at work, at school, everywhere you go, every chance you get. The more jerseys, the better.
"We want to show the hundreds of visitors from out of town what kind of welcome mat Cornwall can roll out", says Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour. "Imagine a city where everybody is wearing a hockey jersey - what does that say about community pride and the ability to work together?"
The RBC Cup is the Stanley Cup of Canadian Junior ‘A” hockey. Teams representing four regional championships across Canada, plus the host Cornwall Colts, will compete in a round robin tournament. The Colts are well-rested and healthy, and anxious to show that a long layoff hasn’t hurt their chances. All games in the tournament will be webcast on the Hockey Canada website, with the final game to be shown live on TSN and RDS on Sunday afternoon.
"With national media attention on Cornwall, this is really a great opportunity to show how good a host we can be for an event of this stature", said Mayor Bob Kilger. "I encourage all residents to support the RBC Cup frenzy by wearing jerseys all week to show our support."
Special Limited Edition Jerseys Available
To mark the occasion, Team Cornwall has partnered with the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce to produce a limited edition Cornwall Colts / RBC Cup practice jersey. Specially priced at only $25, tax included, the souvenir jerseys will be perfect to wear during the RBC Cup, and will be a great keepsake after the national championship. Jerseys will be available next week at the Team Cornwall JCP office in Cornwall Square during regular business hours. Groups or businesses wishing to purchase multiple jerseys are advised to pre-order by calling the Team Cornwall office at 613-933-7444 or by emailing info@teamcornwall.com. Limited quantities of the jersey are available. So be sure to get yours early.
The first opportunity fans will have to show their colours will be at an RBC Cup pep rally, Thursday May 1st at Cornwall Square. In addition to games, face painting and prizes, fans will have able to get Colts autographs and sign the Good Luck banner.
